LCROSS Centaur impacts the permanently shadowed floor of Cabeus crater

2009-10-09 11:31 UTC · Recorded · space

The source states this happened, and its date is not in the future. The word the source used for it is historical.

A spent Centaur upper stage struck Cabeus at roughly 2.5 km/s. The trailing shepherding spacecraft flew through the ejecta plume for about four minutes, returning spectra, before impacting itself.
