The second stop for both spacecraft and the decision point of the mission. Voyager 1 passed on 12 November 1980 and Voyager 2 on 25 August 1981. The encounters resolved the rings into thousands of individual ringlets, found braided and shepherded structures that ring dynamics had not predicted, and added several small moons. Saturn also set the two trajectories apart permanently: Voyager 1's pass was shaped around a close approach to Titan, which threw it out of the ecliptic plane, while Voyager 2's was shaped to continue to Uranus. Not a place on Earth.
