The island city-state at the southern end of the Strait of Malacca, and the densest submarine cable hub in Asia. Its position is the whole explanation: almost everything moving by sea between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific passes the strait beside it, and so does almost everything moving by cable, because the same narrow water that concentrates shipping also concentrates the only viable seabed corridor. Landing stations are grouped at Changi in the east and Tuas in the west, operated by several carriers, and the national regulator designates where new cables may come ashore — as of 2026 at Changi Site 1A, Tuas West and Tuas South — which is an unusually explicit example of a state managing landing geography as national infrastructure rather than leaving it to operators. Singapore's density is a strength and a concentration risk at once: it makes the country the natural interconnection point for South-East Asia, and it means a very large number of independent cable systems share one small piece of coastline and one heavily trafficked approach.
