Bessemer describes the converter to the British Association
node
Henry Bessemer presents his process for making malleable iron and steel without fuel to the British Association at Cheltenham: air blown through molten pig iron burns out carbon and silicon, and the heat of that oxidation sustains the process. Combined with the later Siemens-Martin open-hearth route, it turns steel from a craft product into a bulk commodity. Architecture does not cause this and does not at first notice it.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.

- Evidence
- Description of the converter process in which air blown through molten pig iron removes carbon and silicon, the heat of oxidation sustaining the process without external fuel - the step that made bulk steel cheap. V55 verification basis: the paper and occasion are established record; the text was not consulted in this session and the exact title wording should be confirmed.
