The tower opens in Dubai with a published height of 828 m and about 163 habitable floors. Its buttressed core - a hexagonal concrete core with three buttressing wings, each stepping back at a different level - was shaped in wind-tunnel testing to break up organised vortex shedding, so the form is a wind response before it is an aesthetic one. Reinforced concrete carries the structure to roughly level 156; a steel spire continues above.
