Clive McCay, Mary Crowell and Leonidas Maynard at Cornell report that rats fed a restricted but nutritionally adequate diet from a young age live substantially longer than freely fed controls. It is the founding result of experimental gerontology and, ninety years later, still the most reproducible one.
