OneWeb files for bankruptcy protection
node
With about seventy satellites launched and its next financing round unresolved as the pandemic disrupted capital markets, OneWeb filed for Chapter 11 protection in the United States. It is the sharpest available demonstration of the constellation model's central financial hazard: the network earns nothing until it is close to complete, so the entire capital requirement must be raised in advance of any revenue, and a single failed round can end the business with functioning satellites already in orbit.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.

- Evidence
- The satellite industry's revenue is reported in four segments — satellite services, ground equipment, satellite manufacturing and launch services — with services and ground equipment together forming the large majority and launch a low single-digit share. V55 verification basis: this session had no network egress and no remaining WebSearch budget, so the report was not retrieved; the segment structure is stated from author knowledge and every figure derived from it is given as a magnitude rather than a number.
