Isotope study quantifies Amazonian moisture recycling

node

Salati and colleagues publish an isotopic analysis of Amazonian rainfall showing that the deuterium and oxygen-18 signature does not follow the trajectory expected of purely ocean-derived vapour moving inland, and infer that a large fraction of the basin's rainfall is water recycled by the forest itself. It converts a plausible mechanism into a measured quantity.

A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.

  21. Evidence
  22. Supports the claim that a large fraction of Amazonian rainfall is water recycled by the forest, established from the isotopic composition of rainfall across the basin. V55 verification basis: this session had no WebSearch budget and the egress proxy blocked every research domain, so the paper was neither retrieved nor read; the citation and the finding are stated from the producing model's knowledge and the exact recycled fraction is deliberately not quoted.
