Antipater of Sidon

A Phoenician-born Greek poet of the late second century BCE, some seventy-five of whose epigrams survive in the Greek Anthology. One of them, Anthologia Palatina 9.58, is the earliest surviving text that gathers a set of seven marvels into a single list and is conventionally treated as the origin of the canon. Notably his seven are not the familiar seven: he names the walls of Babylon, not the Lighthouse of Alexandria. He writes in the first person as someone who has seen them, which frames the list as a traveller's boast rather than a scholarly catalogue.
