The United States Eastern Range, on a barrier cape in Brevard County, Florida, and the busiest launch site in the world. Its geography is the reason it exists: at about 28.5° north it gains roughly 400 metres per second of free eastward velocity from the Earth's rotation, and every trajectory to the east crosses open Atlantic rather than populated land, so a failure falls into water. It is a Space Force installation distinct from the adjacent NASA Kennedy Space Center to its north, and it hosts commercially leased pads including Space Launch Complex 40, from which most Falcon 9 missions fly. Its two landing zones receive returning boosters, which is why a single site can both launch and recover on the same day.
