China announces the measured length of the Great Wall
The State Administration of Cultural Heritage announced the results of a six-year archaeological survey begun in 2007, putting the total length of Great Wall works of all periods at 21,196.18 km and recording 43,721 heritage sites including wall stretches, defence works, passes and related ruins. It was the first systematic measurement of the whole system, and it more than doubled previously cited figures.
Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
