JET sets the single-pulse fusion energy record of 69.26 MJ
In its final deuterium-tritium campaign, DTE3, JET released 69.26 MJ of fusion energy during a 5.2-second plasma discharge, from about 0.2 milligrams of fuel, surpassing the 59 MJ set in December 2021. The campaign tested operating scenarios extrapolated from smaller European devices and was designed to hand ITER data that can no longer be obtained anywhere. This is a record of total fusion energy released in one pulse. It is not a gain record and must not be compared with NIF's target gain, which is a different quantity measured on a different kind of machine.
