Flores and colleagues publish an assessment in Nature arguing that the relevant question is not a single deforestation percentage but the compounding of water stress, fire, clearance and warming, and propose safe boundaries in terms of rainfall, dry season length and cumulative water deficit as well as forest loss. It replaces a threshold with a set of conditions, which is harder to quote and closer to the mechanism.
