Amazon begins deploying production broadband satellites
The first batch of production satellites for Amazon's broadband constellation, later rebranded Amazon Leo, reached orbit — two years after prototype satellites and against a regulatory deployment schedule already largely elapsed. The programme is the first serious challenge to the incumbent low-Earth-orbit broadband operator, and it is being built by a company whose motivation is at least partly to supply its own cloud and logistics businesses rather than to sell subscriptions alone.
