The United States crewed lunar programme run by NASA, committed by President Kennedy before a joint session of Congress on 25 May 1961 and flown from 1967 to 1972.

  • is forced redesign of of Apollo 1 (AS-204) — The fire stopped Apollo flights for twenty months and forced a command module redesign — quick-release hatch, non-flammable materials, protected wiring — without which the landings would not have been attempted on schedule.
