Modern capital of Shaanxi province and the successor city on the site of Chang'an. The Ming-era walls, the Bell Tower, the Muslim Quarter around the Great Mosque, and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda built in 652 to house Xuanzang's returned scriptures all stand within it. The Beilin (Forest of Steles) Museum holds the Nestorian Stele of 781. Xi'an is the eastern terminus of the UNESCO Chang'an-Tianshan corridor inscribed in 2014 and the symbolic starting point used by modern Silk Road framing.

The property is defined as a network of routes, not a road.
- Records in Chinese, with a Syriac colophon listing clergy, that the missionary Alopen reached Chang'an in 635 and received Tang imperial permission to preach, and summarises a century and a half of the Church of the East in China. The primary documentary object for Christianity on the overland routes.
