The Great Pyramid is built as mass, not span
node
The pyramid at Giza is completed in the reign of Khufu. Structurally it is the opposite of everything that follows in this Journey: it encloses almost no space, and its interior voids are managed with corbelling and stacked relieving chambers rather than with any spanning device. The Grand Gallery is corbelled; the burial chamber ceiling is a stack of granite beams with a corbelled gable above to divert the load. It is the tallest structure built by human beings for roughly 3,800 years, and it achieves that by piling material, which is a solution available to any society with enough labour and no engineering theory at all.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.

- Evidence
- Comparative structural analysis of large pre-industrial buildings, treating span, thrust and material strength as the variables that determine what each period could build. Supports the load-path framing used throughout this pack and the structural contrasts drawn between post-and-lintel, corbelling, the voussoir arch, the dome and the rib vault. V55 verification basis: this volume is a real and standard reference named in the Journey declaration, but it was NOT consulted in this session - WebFetch is refused by the environment egress proxy for all research domains and the session WebSearch budget was exhausted before production began.
