World Athletics
node
The international governing body for athletics, and the authority that owns the marathon distance, the road course criteria and the ratification of world records. It was begun at a meeting of 27 representatives from 17 national federations in Stockholm on 18 July 1912, immediately after the Stockholm Olympic Games, and formally founded at a congress in Berlin in 1913 as the International Amateur Athletic Federation. It renamed itself the International Association of Athletics Federations in 2001 and World Athletics in 2019. Its headquarters were in Stockholm to 1946, London to 1993 and Monaco since. It is the body whose 1921 congress fixed 42.195 km as the marathon distance, and the body that decided in 2020 what a legal racing shoe is.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.

- From 31 January 2020 a road competition shoe may have a midsole no thicker than 40 mm and no more than one rigid plate, and from 30 April 2020 any shoe used in competition must have been available at retail for at least four months. V55 verification basis: worldathletics.org was refused by this session's egress proxy; read only through attributed search summaries of the press release.
- A record-eligible road course must have start and finish no further apart in a straight line than 50 percent of the race distance, and a net elevation decrease no greater than 1 m per km. V55 verification basis: read through an attributed search summary; the current World Athletics rule number and revision date were not confirmed.
