GEBCO maintains the reference global bathymetric grid under joint IHO/IOC auspices; the Seabed 2030 project, launched in 2017, aims to map the entire ocean floor. Its own reporting for World Hydrography Day 2025 put 27.3 per cent of the ocean floor mapped to modern standards, up from 26.1 per cent a year earlier — so roughly three-quarters of the seafloor remains unsurveyed at modern resolution. V55 verification basis: the Seabed 2030 announcement was retrieved in summary; the GEBCO grid documentation itself was not opened, this session having no direct network access to gebco.net.
