CCAMLR manages Southern Ocean living resources on an ecosystem basis, requiring that harvesting take account of dependent and related species rather than of the target stock alone, and decides by consensus. The Ross Sea region marine protected area was adopted in October 2016 and entered into force at the end of 2017. Area figures for the Ross Sea MPA and current krill catch limits are deliberately not quoted.
