Crompton completes the spinning mule

Samuel Crompton combined the jenny's moving carriage with the water frame's drafting rollers, producing yarn both strong and very fine. It allowed British muslins to compete with, and then undercut, the Indian cloth that had been the world standard. Crompton could not afford a patent and released the design for a subscription that never approached its value.
