The EU Artificial Intelligence Act enters into force

The first comprehensive statutory regime for AI systems entered into force, with a staged application timetable: prohibitions and AI literacy duties first, general-purpose model obligations next, and the high-risk conformity regime last. The design assumes that by the time high-risk obligations apply, harmonised standards will exist against which conformity can be assessed.
