Granada falls and the Andalusi repertoire crosses to the Maghreb

The end of the last Islamic polity in Iberia, followed over the next century by expulsions of Muslim and then Morisco populations, drives Andalusi families — musicians among them — across the strait into North Africa. The nūba repertoire is maintained thereafter in Fez, Tlemcen, Algiers, Tunis and elsewhere, under the names ala, ṣanʿa and maʾlūf, while the institutional tradition ends in Iberia itself. The transmission runs south at the same moment that the Atlantic crossings begin to run west.
