ERTS-1, later Landsat 1, begins the civil land-imaging record

node

The first Earth Resources Technology Satellite launched into a sun-synchronous orbit carrying a multispectral scanner, beginning a continuous record of the Earth's land surface that has now run for more than half a century. The mission established the pattern of civil Earth observation as a public programme whose value was assumed to be societal rather than commercial, a framing that would be contested repeatedly over the following decades as attempts were made to sell the data.

A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
