Hrozný identifies Hittite as an Indo-European language

Bedřich Hrozný announced that the unidentified principal language of the Boğazköy tablets was Indo-European, recognising inflectional endings and vocabulary of Indo-European type within the cuneiform text; his full treatment, Die Sprache der Hethiter, appeared in 1917. The identification added the earliest substantially attested branch of the family and one that turned out to be archaic in ways that forced the family tree to be redrawn, with Anatolian now widely placed as the first branch to separate.
