The American Folklife Center acquires the Alan Lomax Collection

The Library of Congress acquires the material Lomax gathered after his Archive of American Folk Song years, previously housed at Hunter College in New York — reported as including more than five thousand hours of sound recordings, four hundred thousand feet of film, some two and a half thousand videotapes and a working library — reuniting it with the discs he and his father deposited in the 1930s and 1940s. Sixty years of fieldwork across four continents becomes, at that point, a single consultable archive.
