INPE begins the annual PRODES deforestation series

Brazil's national space research institute begins producing an annual wall-to-wall satellite map of clear-cut deforestation across the Legal Amazon. It is the decision that makes everything downstream possible: without a consistent series measured the same way each year, none of the later claims about rates rising, falling or accelerating would be checkable.

A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
