TAT-1 opens with 36 telephone circuits
node
The first transatlantic telephone cable entered service between Gallanach Bay near Oban and Clarenville in Newfoundland, and was inaugurated at a ceremony in London. Its capacity was 36 simultaneous telephone circuits — the entire live voice capacity between two continents. A minority of sources give 26 September; the majority give 25 September, and this pack records the discrepancy rather than resolving it.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
