New7Wonders Foundation
node
The private foundation created by the Canadian-Swiss businessman Bernard Weber, which from 2000 ran a global campaign to elect a new set of seven wonders by public vote. Twenty-one finalists were announced on 1 January 2006 and the winners declared in Lisbon on 7 July 2007 after what the foundation reported as more than 100 million votes cast by internet and telephone. UNESCO publicly disowned the exercise. The foundation went on to run further campaigns for natural wonders and cities. It is included here as an object because the 2007 list cannot be understood without knowing who convened the vote and on what terms.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
