John Jumper

person · earth

The chemist and computer scientist who led the AlphaFold2 work at Google DeepMind and is first author of the 2021 Nature paper. He was awarded one quarter share of the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, jointly with Demis Hassabis, "for protein structure prediction". His significance to this Journey is not biographical but evidential: the result he led is the one machine-learning claim in this pack that was validated by a blind external experiment before it was published, adopted as routine practice afterwards, and then recognised by an institution with no stake in the claim.

A person is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
