Berlin moves its marathon into the city

The race starts from the meadow in front of the Reichstag with 3,486 runners from 30 nations and finishes at the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church in City West. Moving out of the Grunewald onto the flat streets of the city is the decision that eventually makes Berlin the fastest marathon course in the world; at the time it is a decision about spectators, not about times.

Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
