The Kumasi Trio record in London

Kwame Asare — Jacob Sam — travels from the Gold Coast to London and records for Zonophone's West African series, producing among other sides "Yaa Amponsah", the earliest guitar-band highlife recordings. The instrument is European, the studio is in London, the right-hand technique is reported to derive from the Akan seperewa by way of Kru seamen who learned guitar aboard ship, and the music is Akan. It is the Atlantic circuit running in the direction the standard account of musical diffusion rarely describes.

Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
