Mersey report published

The report found the loss due to collision with an iceberg brought about by the excessive speed at which the ship was navigated; that Titanic's boats had exceeded the Board of Trade requirement, which was itself long out of date; that the Californian could have come to her assistance; and that boats and rafts should be provided for all on board. It also recorded, incorrectly, that the ship sank in one piece.

Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
