Carpathia reaches the boats and begins the rescue

Rostron arrived some four hours after the distress call, having run about 58 nautical miles through ice. Boat 2 came alongside first; the last survivors were taken aboard by around 08:30, roughly 705 in all. The Californian, having finally switched on her wireless, reached the scene later that morning and found only wreckage.

Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
