OSNAP is deployed across the subpolar North Atlantic
In the summer of 2014 an array of around sixty moorings, supplemented by gliders and floats, was laid from the Labrador shelf to Greenland and from Greenland to Scotland, to measure overturning north of the RAPID line and close to where the sinking actually happens. The design deliberately separated a western section spanning the Labrador Sea from an eastern section spanning the Irminger and Iceland basins and the Rockall Trough.

A sea change in our view of overturning in the subpolar North Atlantic
Over the first 21 months of the OSNAP array (August 2014 – April 2016) overturning averaged 15.6 ± 0.8 Sv across OSNAP East and 2.1 ± 0.3 Sv across OSNAP West, contradicting the prevailing view that Labrador Sea convection dominates subpolar overturning variability.
