The Paris Agreement enters into force
The agreement enters into force thirty days after the threshold of ratification by at least fifty-five parties accounting for at least fifty-five per cent of global emissions is crossed — far faster than negotiators had expected when the text was adopted eleven months earlier. The speed was itself a diplomatic signal, and it meant that the withdrawal provisions, which require a party to wait before notifying and then a further year before withdrawal takes effect, became operative earlier than anticipated.
Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.

Paris Agreement
Supports the temperature goal formulation, the nationally determined contribution architecture with its ratchet and transparency provisions, the absence of any enforcement mechanism, and the entry-into-force and withdrawal procedures. V55 verification basis: the treaty text was not retrieved in this session; the decision reference is given without the full UN document symbol because that symbol could not be confirmed, and no article is quoted verbatim.
