Tokyo redesigns its course for speed

The race keeps its start outside the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building but abandons the hilly, exposed final 6 km along the waterfront, moving the finish to Gyoko-dori beside Tokyo Station. Roughly 13 to 14 km of the course is new. Turns and gradient are reduced and the course becomes markedly faster while remaining record-eligible — a city deliberately re-engineering its streets into a faster instrument.

Historical — it happened, and the record is settled.
