The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos occurs each January in a Swiss mountain resort of 11,000 permanent residents that temporarily hosts 3,000 of the most consequential people on Earth: heads of state, central bank governors, CEOs of the 1,000 largest companies, and the editors of the publications that frame how all of the above are perceived. The formal programme — panels, keynotes, sessions — is the visible layer. The operational significance of Davos is the density of bilateral meetings concentrated into five days: deals initiated, coalitions formed, narratives stress-tested. The Congress Centre is the anchor but the real Davos happens in hotel suites, private dinners, and late-night conversations between people who otherwise require six months of scheduling to occupy the same room. Davos is not a conference. It is a compression of the access infrastructure that normally requires an entire year to navigate.
