EAST sustains a high-confinement plasma for 1,066 seconds

node

China's EAST tokamak in Hefei sustained a steady-state high-confinement (H-mode) plasma for 1,066 seconds at a reported ion temperature of order 100 million degrees Celsius, breaking its own 2023 record of 403 seconds. This is a confinement-duration result achieved without deuterium-tritium fuel; essentially no fusion energy was produced. Duty cycle is one of the engineering gaps between a physics result and a power station, and this is the clearest public marker of progress on it.

A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
