Egypt forces the Great Pyramid out of the New7Wonders ballot
node
Egyptian officials reacted angrily to the inclusion of the Giza pyramids among the twenty-one finalists announced on 1 January 2006. The culture minister Farouk Hosni called the contest absurd and the antiquities chief Zahi Hawass called it a silly idea that risked commercialising irreplaceable heritage. Egypt demanded the pyramids' removal, and the foundation resolved the dispute by inventing the status of Honorary New7Wonders Candidate, after which no votes could be cast for them.
A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
