The World Heritage Committee decided not to include 'Venice and its Lagoon' on the List of World Heritage in Danger, contrary to the recommendation of the Convention's technical bodies, citing measures adopted by Italian national and local authorities. ALSO: Ahead of the 45th session, UNESCO and advisory-body experts recommended in-danger listing for Venice, finding no significant progress on mass tourism, development projects and climate change, which they said were degrading building structures, urban areas and the cultural and social identity of the property. A similar move in 2021 was averted after Italy banned large cruise ships from the historic centre.
