Silkworm cultivation reaches Byzantium

Sericulture is established in the Byzantine empire during the reign of Justinian I, ending the eastern monopoly on producing silk rather than merely trading it. Procopius gives the account of monks carrying eggs west; it is a near-contemporary narrative and is treated as such.
