Dedication of Constantinople

Constantine dedicates his refounded city on the site of Byzantium. It is deliberately a second Rome: a Senate, grain distributions redirected from Egypt, monumental building. Within a century the empire's demographic, fiscal and administrative centre of gravity has moved east, which is most of the reason the western half is the half that fails first.

A node is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
