The Severomuysky Tunnel opens under the BAM's worst obstacle

The 15.3 km tunnel enters service after roughly twenty-six years of intermittent construction, removing the steep temporary bypass that had capped train weights across the whole Baikal–Amur Mainline. Sources retrieved for this pack disagree on the date: one gives 12 May 2003, another December 2003. The disagreement is recorded rather than resolved.
