A Varda Space Industries capsule carrying crystals of the antiviral ritonavir, grown on a free-flying satellite in low Earth orbit, landed at the Utah Test and Training Range. The return had been delayed roughly eight months while re-entry authorisation was resolved, which is the more instructive part of the story: the binding constraint on in-space manufacturing turned out to be that no established regulatory path existed for a private company to bring a capsule back to the United States.
