International Ice Patrol

The standing iceberg-monitoring service created directly out of the Titanic loss. American vessels began patrolling the Grand Banks shipping lanes in 1913, and the 1914 SOLAS convention formalised the arrangement, funded by the maritime nations whose ships benefit and operated by the United States Coast Guard. It surveys the limits of iceberg drift each season and broadcasts them to shipping; no vessel heeding its published limits has been lost to ice in the patrolled region.
