White Star Line (Oceanic Steam Navigation Company)
company · economy
British shipping line trading as White Star, formally the Oceanic Steam Navigation Company, rebuilt by Thomas Henry Ismay from 1868 and headquartered at Albion House, James Street, Liverpool. From 1902 it was controlled by J. P. Morgan's International Mercantile Marine combine, so Titanic was British-registered and British-crewed but American-owned at the parent level. The line merged with Cunard in 1934 to form Cunard-White Star.
A company is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
