Jack Phillips (John George Phillips)
person
Titanic's senior wireless operator, a Marconi company employee from Farncombe, Surrey, who turned twenty-five three days before the collision. Working through a backlog of passenger telegrams on the evening of 14 April, he cut off the Californian's ice message with a curt instruction to keep out; an hour later he was transmitting CQD and SOS on Captain Smith's order and stayed at the key until the power failed. He did not survive. His junior, Harold Bride, did, and testified in New York.
A person is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
