Victor Vescovo
person · earth
American investor, former US Navy officer and explorer who financed and led the Five Deeps Expedition, reaching the deepest point of all five oceans in DSV Limiting Factor. His Challenger Deep dives - four between 28 April and 5 May 2019, then further dives including June 2020 transects - are what complicate the question 'who went deepest'. Because he dived repeatedly, and because pressure-derived depths depend on the sound-velocity and datum corrections applied, his reported maxima have been quoted variously (about 10,925 m and about 10,928 m appear in expedition material). Not a place.
A person is not a place. Drawing it on a map would assert something about the world that no stored fact supports.
