Southampton — White Star Dock (Berth 44)

Titanic's port of registry for the voyage and the start of the maiden voyage, departing Berth 44 in the newly opened White Star Dock (renamed Ocean Dock in 1922) at noon on 10 April 1912. Her displacement drew the moored liner SS New York from her ropes as she passed, delaying departure by about an hour. The great majority of the crew were Southampton people and more than five hundred of the town's residents were lost, a concentration of bereavement without parallel in the port's history.
